Obituary

On February 9, 2025, Alex John Buxbaum, most famously known as Papa, Uncle, Bugsy, and Felix, passed away surrounded by loved ones. Even in his last days, Alex was joking, laughing, and asking that there be no sadness, treating the room full of family and friends as a celebration. As everyone was exiting, he asked, "Why are you leaving the party?"

Alex was born in Bozeman, Montana, to Alex and Frieda Buxbaum on May 16, 1950. He was the youngest of six, survived by his five sisters: MaryAnne Crabill, Jane Cranford, Else Schye, Diane DeLange, and Kathy Johnson. Alex graduated from Western Washington University with a degree in psychology. In the late 1970s, he joined a business with his brother-in-law, Ron (Kathy). They spent many years farming algae for crops. He was very passionate about the science behind algae production and was proud of his work.

Alex left behind the love of his life, Laura, and his three children: Alysia, Alec, and Adam (Maria). Many people called him "Dad," most specifically Joel, Carisa, and Chris (there are many others we may have missed, but you have not been forgotten).

Alex was a huge sports fan and loved nothing more than watching his children and grandchildren participate. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren: Alexis, Emma, Abigail, Brayden, Madelyn, and Lucas.

Alex dedicated his life to his family, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and memories that will forever be cherished. Alex requested that there be no funeral, but instead he requested a celebration of his life in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, we would appreciate a donation in honor of Alex. Donations can be sent via Zelle to Laura Buxbaum or to send a Venmo payment.
