Janice
Bottineau
March 10, 1938 – February 12, 2024
Janice Arlene Bottineau, age 85, went to be in the arms of her heavenly father on February 12, 2024. Janice was born on March 10, 1938 in Granger, WA, the daughter of Alfred and Jessie (Basler) Coder. At the age of three, Alfred and Jessie moved Janice, her six brothers and five of her sisters to Bellevue, WA because of the war. Two of her brothers enlisted in the army. One was stationed in the Philippines, the other in Germany. Her father worked in the shipyards with two of her brothers and her mother worked as a waitress in Seattle. Janice's love for movies began as a child. Her mother would give the younger children a quarter each which would be enough for them to watch the news, movie previews, a short subject movie, a cartoon, and two regular movies. Janice attended grade school in Bellevue through the 3rd grade. When the war ended the family returned to Granger where she continued her education through the 6th grade. In 1947, Janice's father Alfred became the police chief of the Granger Police Department; her sister Mina was voted the very first Cherry Queen for Granger's Cherry Blossom Festival. In 1950, the family moved to Sunnyside where she went to school.
In 1953, she married John Michael 'Johnny' Bottineau and they made their home in Sunnyside. Shortly after they were married the couple moved to Wenatchee where they did agricultural work ranging from apples, beets, cherries, and pruning. In 1954, the couple welcomed baby Michiel, but the Lord called him home only three days later. In 1955, Janice and John were pleased to announce the birth of their son John 'Dennis' Bottineau. While working in Moses Lake, the couple welcomed daughter Deanna (Potter) in 1957. Two years later in 1959, the couple made their way back to Sunnyside where they had their son Ken Bottineau.
Janice and Johnny loved dancing and spending time with family and friends. Janice also loved to be around her family especially for family gatherings. Her love for reading was known to everyone who knew her and she could finish a book within a day. Her favorites were western romance and science fiction books. Later in life, she loved her trips to the casino and the times family would take her to Las Vegas. Most often, staying out later than everyone else, just gambling!
Janice is survived by children Deanna Potter (Lynn) and Ken Bottineau (Irma), grandchildren Kristi, Ryan, AmberLi, Brent, Stormy, and Chante, great-grandchildren Haven, Lily, Brody, Noah, Shelby, Maya, and Calise, and sister Mary Coder Bedker. Janice is preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Jessie, husband Johnny, sons Michiel and Dennis, and siblings George, Howard, Wally, Russell, Richard, Mina, Maxine, Teddy, and Dale.
Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 2:00 pm at the Lower Valley Memorial Gardens, Sunnyside, WA. A celebration of life luncheon will follow at the Sunnyside Presbyterian Church located at 737 S. 16th St., Sunnyside, WA.
