Sharron
Sweeney
November 30, 1937 – January 9, 2026
Sharron (Seelig) Sweeney passed away January 9th, 2026 after a prolonged illness. Sharron was the second child of Ken and Mildred Seelig of St. Maries, Idaho.
Sharron spent her early childhood in eastern North Dakota and western Minnesota where many of her extended family resided. When Sharron was in middle school, the Seeligs moved to Idaho where she subsequently graduated high school and met her future husband, Charles Sweeney. They married and raised two boys while living in Post Falls, Idaho. Tragedy struck when her husband died of heart failure when he was just 40 years old. Sharron moved her young boys to Yakima where her younger brother lived and continued in her career as a bank employee. That move was followed by another, this time to Vancouver, Washington. She moved back to Post Falls as an empty nester and lived in the home she and her husband had purchased over two decades before. It was there that she lived among her friends and family for the next 40 years.
Sharron cultivated friends wherever she lived. This obituary will find a place in newspapers stretching from northern Idaho to Portland, Oregon and in several communities in between. Sharron was a unabashed liberal in a country that was gradually becoming more conservative. That shift only strengthened her resolve to argue for the protection of working class families and minorities. Sharron was also a feminist at a time when women had to fight to get basic rights, including the right to be free from legally sanctioned spousal rape. Her heart was broken when women's bodily autonomy was taken from them by an activist court.
Sharron is preceded in death by her husband, her mother and father, her eldest son Kevin Sweeney, and her sister-in-law Betty Seelig. She is survived by her brother Clell Seelig and his wife Jan, her second brother Kent Seelig, nephews Derek Seelig, Craig Seelig, and Brett Seelig, and niece Nicole Wilson, her son Mark Sweeney and his wife Lynn, their children Conner Sweeney, Chelan Sweeney (and her boyfriend Aaron Meyer), and Caitlyn (and her boyfriend Rory McBroom), and her great-grandson Kieran McBroom. Please donate to your local Planned Parenthood in her memory.
